Hello, and Happy Friday! Today I thought I’d pop in and share a recent obsession of mine: abstract watercolour-esque paintings.
I studied art for years as a child and teenager, but one medium I never made friends with was watercolour. When it’s skillfully handled, watercolour is seemingly effortless, but I find the stuff impossible to control, easy to overwork and just plain frustrating.
These two artists, however, clearly have no such problems. Mallory Page has been on my radar for awhile; her ethereal paintings (not actually watercolours, but mixed media handled so subtly that they appears to be) are both calming and unsettling at once. I’ve also just discovered Tobias Tovera, via an archived post on Design Crush. His paintings remind me of Japanese and Chinese landscapes done in ink, only rendered in breathtaking technicolour.
I want to wallpaper an entire house in this art.
Have a great weekend, everybody! x
