I had a completely different post planned for today, but since I’m still in the Paris mood, I thought I’d share one of my favourite design companies instead. I forget where I first heard about a+b kasha, the husband-and-wife team of Alon and Betsy Kasha– perhaps it was their Apartment Therapy House Tour or one of the many blog posts floating around about the couple. In any case, the Paris-based company these two creatives founded in 2002 is pretty much the most inspiring business model, ever.
At its simplest, a+b kasha is a property development company with a twist. The couple buys, renovates and decorates neglected apartments in the City of Lights, turning them into lovely pied-a-terres which they then sell as complete packages to busy (and no doubt quite wealthy) foreigners. How amazing is that?
a+b kasha properties seem to strike the perfect balance between French charm and American comfort. In renovating, the company tries to modernise while maintaining as many original features as possible. After all, people who can afford a slice of the sweet life in Paris surely want to feel like they’re in Paris. However, foreign buyers mean that luxurious and roomy (by French standards) kitchens and bathrooms are the order of the day here.
I also appreciate the company’s approach to decorating these spaces: nothing is too single-note, from one source or style or era. Instead, the designers use a mix of modern, vintage and antique pieces to create a layered look that feels like a real home. One with a distinctly Parisian vibe, of course.

I’m sure you can see why this company is one of those that make me go Why didn’t I think of that?! whenever I peruse their portfolio. It’s a creative and fresh take on property development, not to mention looks like the most fun job ever. Sigh- I’ll just have to imagine buying one of these properties instead, then. Maybe one day!
Have a great weekend, everybody! x
