Hey everyone, how’s your week going? Almost halfway, let’s just keep on chugging…
On today’s agenda are some more backlogged photos from my camera, this time of my friend Amber‘s bachelorette way back in early December. A bunch of us planned a surprise weekend away for the lucky bride-to-be, and let me tell you, it was incredible.
The weekend’s festivities took place at the famous Daylesford Organic farm in the Cotswolds; we had a group yoga class and massages in their spa, and a four-hour cooking class at their renowned cookery school. Digs were at their newly-renovated boutique hotel, the Wild Rabbit in the picturesque village of Kingham.
I could go on and on about how well we ate that weekend, the lovely weather and the incredible company. I could tell you about the country walks, afternoons with cheese and wine by the fire and dinners full of laughter. But you know what– I think I’ll let the photos do the talking, this time.

Hello, everyone! How was your weekend (and for that matter, your week)? Ever since I returned from my mini-break to Rome a week ago, I’ve been playing catch up– at work, at home, socially. I was all set to share these photos from my trip last week, but server problems on Friday scuppered that plan. Luckily, due to good friends and good luck, everything is running again smoothly, and I can now show you what I was up to in the Eternal City.
My friend and I stayed in the Trastevere area, in a 700-year-old building with that rarest (and most welcome, in the 35-plus-degree-heat) thing, a private outdoor pool. We spent each morning walking around the city, exploring different areas and sightseeing, and each afternoon swimming and lounging (aka reading trashy magazines and slathering on sunblock) poolside.
I hadn’t been to Rome since I was 16 years old, so it was pretty much a new experience for me. I’m well-travelled in Italy, but the country’s large cities aren’t really my area of expertise. Well, I’m pretty sure that has to change now. Rome had me at hello: the beautiful architecture, unimaginably old buildings and ruins, tiny side streets, delicious food, friendly locals and vibrant nightlife combine to make this city really something special.
I returned from Rome several shades darker, several pounds heavier and with my feet covered in blisters (cobblestones are a killer, it’s true). But looking at these photos, those memories fade away, and all I can think about is plotting my return as soon as possible.
‘Fraid so, folks. When this post goes live, I’ll be sitting on a plane and headed approximately 1000 miles south-east, to the Italian capital. A good friend of mine (and one of my favourite travel partners) is spending an extended layover in Rome en route to a beach holiday in Barcelona. She begged me to join her in the Eternal City for a long weekend, and I do hate to disappoint my friends…
Obviously, early August isn’t the ideal time to be travelling anywhere, let alone a city where the average daily temperature hovers at 30C. To combat the heat, my friend and I have developed a plan that includes poolside lounging (courtesy of an adorable Airbnb apartment in Trastevere), nighttime concerts, catacomb exploration and lots and lots of gelato. I’ll be sharing it all on Instagram, and I’ll meet you back here on Wednesday.
I think it seems, to some people in my life (and on my Facebook), that I’m always travelling. Personally, I feel that I don’t do enough of it, and would love nothing more than to quit my job, have an unlimited cashflow (from where, I’m not sure) and travel the world. And while I generally love proving others wrong, I’m afraid in this case, I can’t: I’m off again, up to Glasgow for a long weekend.
The last time I visited this city, I was 17 and backpacking around the UK with my best friend. Apart from the absolutely beautiful Glasgow School of Art (an Arts and Crafts masterpiece by Charles Rennie Mackintosh), I don’t remember being overly enthused by the city. However, it’s where my mum, aunt and grandma are kicking off a cruise around the Scottish Isles early next week, and they’ve invited me to join them there for the weekend before.
So, if you have any recommendations for food, fun or otherwise, I’m all ears! Let’s see about this Glasgow place, shall we?
