Otranto, on the south-east coast of Italy, was the second stop on our Apulian itinerary. This small town makes a gorgeous first impression: the white of its buildings in sharp contrast to the aqua blue of its waters.
My sister and I rented a small apartment in the old town, with a balcony overlooking the waterfront and the sea beyond. Breakfast, dinner and bottles of wine were enjoyed there, despite the bracing chill from the sea air at night.
In the daytime however, the temperatures soared, and we spent our time sunbathing on sandy beaches (including one we walked 1.5 hours through the countryside to find), reading and exploring the old and new towns.
