Hello, friends! I thought I’d come out of my temporary hibernation (still plugging away at my freelance project- should be finished next week) to share something really special with all of you. Remember waaaay back in the summer, when I was busy with an entirely different kind of project? Well, my big sister’s wedding has finally been featured on the Wedding Chicks blog, and I wanted to give you all a heads up and encourage you to check it out.
Apparently, the photographer’s original submission was misplaced (not entirely sure how this happens on the internet) which accounts for the three-month delay in posting. But all’s well that ends well: the post is beautiful, and if you have the patience for it, there’s also a 93 image-strong gallery to go with it.
All the photographs are courtesy of the immensely talented Anne-Marie Bouchard from AMB Photo, and judging from the response so far, the internet thinks they’re as gorgeous as I do. (Do you know how weird it is to come across photos of yourself in your Pinterest feed? It’s weird.)
I’ll be back next week to share a few of the DIYs and design ideas I came up with for this wedding, but in the meantime allow me to share some of the beauty here, and have a great rest of the week/weekend!
Remember when I said I was feeling better? Yeah, that lasted about twelve hours. I think my downfall was going out to dinner on Wednesday night with a good friend who’s soon skipping town for Paris (lucky girl, right?). Here’s a tip: the common cold + catching up with girlfriends you haven’t seen in a while + loud restaurant = nothing good. Today my throat is sore and I can barely make a sound.
So I’ll be spending the day in silence, resting up and drinking lots of fluids, while I prepare for the weekend ahead. I’m heading up to visit my sister in the Midlands; she and her husband are having a second wedding reception of sorts, for all the UK guests who couldn’t make it to the summer celebration in Canada. Located in the beautiful British boarding school where her husband teaches and they live, it’s safe to say that I’m looking forward to this “Hogwarts wedding” a lot. My parents will be in town, and it gives me another chance to wear my bridesmaid dress (aka the best thing I’ve ever worn).
Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? Or advice on how to get well in a hurry? Have a great weekend! x
I can happily report that after my day of taking it easy, I’m well on my way to fully mended. I awoke this morning feeling refreshed and (for the most part) healthy, so as of today I’m back at work.
I thought I’d share a few things I stumbled across during my boredom-induced internet explorations yesterday. Mainly, two new-to-me house-candy sites which I think you’ll like. Looking into other people’s homes is addictive to me; I love sites like Apartment Therapy, The Selby and Freunde von Freunden, which show, through photojournalism-style images, how ordinary (though often exceedingly cool) people decorate, organize and live in their homes.
an afternoon with…is just such a site. Photographer Michael Mundy has been photographing interesting subjects, mainly NYC-based, in their homes since 2010. I usually like a little interview with my images, but in this case, the images, relaxed, moody and beautifully composed, speak for themselves:
Another site I like these days is actually a men’s style blog, by London-based photographer Jonathan Daniel Pryce. Jonathan, who I met last month at a mutual friends’ birthday party, covers London street style and all related topics on his site Another Garçon. However it’s the occasional Superior Interiors feature which first drew my interest; Jonathan interviews his subjects as well as photographing them, and the results are as fascinating as they are beautiful (particularly this interview- you must read it).
I’ve been meaning to post these photos ever since I got home from holiday at the beginning of this month, but life (as it does) got in the way. After getting over my jet lag and settling back into boring old everyday life, I’ve finally managed to go through my photos and prepare a little bit of Canadian eye candy for you all.
Though I was quite busy with wedding planning and seeing family during this whirlwind trip, I did manage to grab a few days post-wedding for some relaxation, cottage-style. A handful of girlfriends and I escaped mid-week to a friends’ cottage in Quebec, where we spent a blissful 30 hours jumping from sauna to lake, sunning ourselves on the dock, taking the dog for walks in the woods, cooking delicious meals, and catching up on gossip.
I’m counting the days until I can do this again (Summer 2013 seems a long way off right now), but in the meantime here’s a peek at what my camera and iPhone captured during my all-too-brief time at the cottage…
I’ve got quite a few bits and pieces from my recent holiday to share here- from my visit to a friend’s cottage to my Fall purchases in NYC to (last but not least) my sister’s wedding.
I thought I’d kick things off with a photographic tour of my aunt’s cottage in Quebec. Various family members and wedding guests, among them Canadians, Americans and Brits, headed there the day before the wedding for a leisurely lunch by the lake. I hadn’t seen the place in a few years, and was so impressed by the renovations my aunt has done that I immediately grabbed my camera and did an impromptu house tour.
To my mind, this is exactly what a Canadian cottage should be- unassuming, rustic, and filled with light and laughter. I love that my aunt’s decorating reflects both her personal taste and the location of her home so well. There’s beautiful art and furniture aplenty, but nothing that would make it impractical for her grandchildren to run around.
Hope you enjoyed this little trip to Quebec cottage country… we’ll be back there next week, to a slightly different (but no less lovely) home!
While you read this, I’m likely somewhere over the Atlantic at 35,000 feet, on my way home to Canada for my sister’s wedding this weekend. So, while I’m enjoying airplane food and a selection of terrible films, I thought you might enjoy a look into a holiday I took earlier this year.
I travelled to Barcelona with a good friend of mine in May; she’d been living in the UK for four years and was soon returning to Canada, so this trip was intended as a last European hurrah of sorts. The city was on both of our to-go lists, so after much discussion and a couple re-watchings of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, we decided to take a long weekend and see what all the fuss was about.
Let me just confirm: everything they say about Barcelona is true. The architecture is phenomenal, the beach beautiful, the weather transcendent. The food we ate was fresh and delicious (not to mention cheap!), the people were warm and welcoming, and the overwhelming atmosphere in the city is one of a round-the-clock party.
Between the famous Gaudi architecture, the museums and galleries, and the shopping, there is so much to do in Barcelona that it’s possible to go all Energizer Bunny on this town if you choose. However with the beach, beautiful parks and relaxed Spanish attitude so prevalent, Barcelona is also decidedly laid-back for such a large city. Here’s a small portion of what my iPhone captured during my four days in this inspiring place:
